You are now at the website of Jim Cotton, ocean guy. The planet is 3/4ths water, so you'd better know what to do in the ocean ! Grab a cup of coffee and dig into the content, there should be something to interest you. I'll be adding more stuff soon, so pop in a bookmark and come back.

Driving "MERLIN" during a delivery from Honolulu to Newport Beach, winter 2005/2006. Ocean sailing is my favorite thing to do on a Santa Cruz 70 or a tiny kiteboard. Big Smiles !

People often ask "What does Jalama mean?" The simple answer is that Jalama is a beach on the rugged and windy coast of California. Located at the end of a twisted road that leads through oak lined canyons, Jalama was once home to Chumash Indians who lived off the land and sea. Years ago as a fledgling windsurfer, Jalama trashed me and my gear as I learned wavesailing in the frigid and rather sharky waters. Eventually Jalama allowed me to play in whatever seas and winds happened to be available. Jalama became my constant challenge, inspiration and mentor.

When I built my fishing boat for the sea urchin fishery I knew right away what the name would be. That's right, JALAMA. Oh yeah, it's also the name of this website. And there's alot of people trying to get listed in Google by using names that rhyme with Jalama. Beware of imitations, terrorists and presidential candidates. Who are the Dalai Lama, Osama, Obama or even Dave Kalama ?
