Kelp Yourself

Kiting along the California Coastline, sooner or later you'll get kelp tangled in your lines, board or body. The golden brown strands of the kelp plant, ( Macrocystis pyrifera ) are hard to get out of, it's slippery and hard to break. But fear not, just grab a few strands and bite thru them like celery sticks, spiting the chunks out and chomping more until you're clear. Good tip for surfers, divers, windsurfers, fishermen, kayakers and do-it-yourself salad makers.
